Thanks to groovehouse and cosmopolitician for listening, even if it was only for a few songs
I know, it’s hard even for me to sit through the whole thing sometimes.
time- artist / song [album]
06:53 PM- atmosphere / lifter puller [seven's travels] on the rhymesayers label.
————————————————————————————————————-
06:47 PM- white rainbow / mystic prism [prism of eternal now] on the kranky label.
06:44 PM- l.c. good rockin robinson / mojo in my hand [mojo in my hand] on the arhoolie label.
————————————————————————————————————-
06:37 PM- parlour / Mperfect [octopus off broadway] on the secretly canadian label.
06:33 PM- last days / travelling heart [these places are now ruins] on the n5md label. Sad guitar plucking, soft flute and tinkly xylophone. Just beautiful. ————————————————————————————————————-
06:26 PM- hartnetty, brian / the night is quite advancing [american winter] on the atavistic label. Music like this can only be found on KTRU! from Harnetty’s website “made with generous support and encouragement from the berea college special collections, these pieces are comprised of recordings, interviews, and in-between sounds of the berea Appalachian sound archives combined with live instruments.” You have to hear this music to understand how “private” it seems. The KTRUvian who reviewed it said she felt like she was intruding on a private conversation, and I agree.
06:22 PM- aqueduct / just the way i are [or give me death] on the barsuk label. I’m quickly becoming a huge fan of aqueduct. It took me some time, but 2007’s “Or Give Me Death” has worn tracks into my eardrums with its guitar hooks, piano and strings. Much more melodic and lyrical than “I Sold Gold” (2005)
06:17 PM- paban das baul and sam mills / nacho kali [real sugar] on the real world label.
06:16 PM- liz janes & create(!) / lonesome valley [liz janes & create(!)] on the asthmatic kitty label.
————————————————————————————————————-
06:07 PM- frank black / the cult of ray [the cult of ray] on the american recordings label.
06:03 PM- mccully workshop inc. / the circus [love, peace, and poetry: african psychedelic music] on the qdk media label. This particular band on vol 8 of the love, peace and poetry series sounds quite a bit like Os Mutantes. I’m looking forward to playing a few more tracks from this album in the coming weeks.
06:01 PM- battles / leyendecker [mirrored] on the warp label. OOOH! Math rock! This song has some math-y beats and chipmunk vocal effects crooning like R&B singers do it.
05:57 PM- charles mingus / jelly roll [mingus ah um] on the columbia label.
————————————————————————————————————-
05:51 PM- fite, tim / it’s alright here [over the counter culture] on the s/r label. Spazzy hip-hop sampling Ratatat. Word.
05:48 PM- gang gang dance / an excerpt from retina riddim [retina riddim] on the the social registry label.
05:43 PM- destroyer / holly going lightly [this night] on the merge label.
————————————————————————————————————-
05:37 PM- bad livers / horses in the mines [horses in the mines] on the quarterstick records label.
05:36 PM- varous / portrait of salvador [capoeira angola from salvador brazil] on the smithsonian folkaways label.
05:35 PM- David McCallum / the edge [blue note-greatest samples from the blue note lab] on the blue note label.
————————————————————————————————————-
05:26 PM- gogol bordello / balkanization of amerikanization [tamir muskat] on the stinky records label. Described as gypsy punk, which is pretty spot on. Eugene Hutz’s singing has also been likened to Borat crossed with Triumph the comic insult dog, also hilariously accurate. Gogol Bordello’s shows are supposed to be rowdy, which makes me happy ’cause I’m going to see them March 18th.
05:22 PM- st. john, mary / vegetarian management plan [some leaves turned red, some still green] on the international corporation label

he, he, he, hellllmet.
